My great-grandfather Carlo, a proud man ... like his mustache

- Grumo Appula (BA), 1908

Veneziano’s is the story of two dreams: mine and my grandfather's.

It all began in the early 1900s when Carlo, my great-grandfather—the one in the photo with his enormous black mustache and austere expression—returned from an unsuccessful trip to the United States (where he had unsuccessfully sought his fortune) and decided to open a small bakery in a small village in the province of Bari, in southern Italy.

He had a family with four children… it was a very brave choice, don't you think?

The eldest of his four children was my grandfather, Michele—in this photo, he's the boy with a striking red quiff. Together with his younger brother Lorenzo, at a very young age (grandfather Carlo sadly left them too young), they began successfully running the PANIFICIO ELETTRICO, a bakery still open in Grumo Appula and run by his grandchildren.

In 1930, my grandfather Michele decided to leave his small hometown and seek his fortune in the surrounding villages (he opened a bakery in Bitetto and another in Modugno), eventually arriving in Bari, where he finally had the opportunity to pursue his ambition with success: the production of fresh pasta. From that moment on, his business experienced significant growth, and within a short time he succeeded in opening a series of artisanal pasta factories.
But my grandfather Michele, as a true Italian (as well as a true Apulian), was not meant to "rest."

After opening several pasta factories under his own name, he shifted his focus and ambitions far beyond the region's borders; he planned to open a pasta factory in Rome and dreamed of returning to the United States, where his father failed to make his fortune but where his two other brothers were now living.

The Italian dream born to grow up.

Today, I want to inherit that determination and spirit of continuous growth. I feel compelled to complete a journey I began many years ago.

Almost a century has passed since then, and the dream of bringing artisanal gastronomic excellence to the world continues, and I want to share it with my children.

Welcome to the era of Italian Food Style Everywhere, welcome to Veneziano's!
